Boreal Owl

This Boreal Owl was photographed January 26, 1996 by Karen Cedar. It is the only record for this northern owl for Windsor or Essex County. The bird was found roosting in a backyard cedar by Matt Baker.

Boreal Owls have often been discovered roosting near feeders, but it is not the seed nor the song birds that attract these owls, it is the flying squirrels and mice which visit feeders at night.
