House Finches are a common year round visitor to backyard feeders. They like to feed on sunflower chips and oil sunflower. Males (bottom right) have reddish foreheads, breast and rumps while females (top left) are streaked with brown. Pine Siskins (bottom left) are smaller, more distinctly striped and have a more pointed bill. They are an irregular migrant through Essex County in the spring and fall and are usually found amongst American Goldfinches or House Finches.
