September 2003 Sightings in the Windsor Area
Tuesday, September 16: Fred Urie bireded the trails around the nature centre and down the Titcombe bike trail to Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park. There were lots of migrants present including Rose-breasted Gosbeak 6, Baltimore Oriole 1, Indigo Bunting 2, Eastern Towhee 6, Great Crested Flycatcher 1 and the following warblers: Blackpoll 15, Nashville 26, Tennessee 9, Blackburnian 3, Black-throated Green 4, Cape May 2, American Redstart 7, Pine 1, Bay-breasted 2, Magnolia 2, Chestnut-sided 2, Black&White 1, Palm 1, and Black-throated Blue 1. Saturday, September 13: A new storm water retention pond just south of Sandwich Parkway on old Huron Church Line held an excellent variety of shorebirds including 152 Killdeers, 2 Semipalmated Plovers, 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, 5 Semipalmated Sandpipers, 5 Pectoral Sandpipers, 6 Least Sandpipers and 5 Baird's Sandpipers. Mark Conlon found 8 American Golden Plovers and 1 Black-bellied Plover here on September 8.
