2000 Cedar Creek Christmas Bird Count

The sixteenth Cedar Creek CBC on December 16th, 2000 attracted twenty-seven participants who tallied 80 species and 133,663 individuals. Merlin was recorded for count week. Record high counts (numbers in bold) were observed for Northern Flicker, American Crow and Yellow-rumped Warbler. Rare species such as Double-crested Cormorant, American Pipit and Orange-crowned Warbler have been recorded on few previous counts.

Weather conditions were poor throughout the day. Six inches of snow remained from storms over the previous week. Light to heavy rain and afternoon fog made bird finding a challenge. At the end of the day everyone got to relax at Tom and Peggy Hurst's for the tally and a pot luck dinner.

PARTICIPANTS: Area 1 Kingsville: (65 species) Tom Hince, Heather Campbell, Dean Ware, Peggy Hurst.  Area 2 Cedar Beach: (34 species) Betty Learmouth, Gordon Barnett, Paul Desjardins, Pauline Renaud.  Area 3 Gesto: (37 species) Anne Barbour, Brian Barbour, Bonnie Foley, Bernard Calhoun, Shirley Grondin, JoAnn Grondin, Jim McAllister, Anne & Ron Muir, Phil Roberts, John Zoch.  Area 4 South Colchester: (43 species) Thomas Hurst, Keith Burk, Jim Burk.  Area 5 Harrow: (45 species) Paul Pratt, Karen Cedar, Dustin Morin, Glenn Gervais, David D'hondt.

The list below is divided into four columns: (SPECIES); (#) the number of counts recording this species; (MAX) maximum number recorded for a single count; (2000) results for 2000 count. Species recorded during count week but never on the count are shown as (cw).
