December 2004 Sightings in the Windsor Area
Visit the Nature Centre's Upcoming Events page and ECFNC Activities page for upcoming programs. Call the nature centre for information on upcoming Christmas Bird Counts. Everyone is welcome to participate. Saturday, December 04: Sightings from Saturday's field trip to Point Pelee included late migrants such as Horned Grebe, 2 Double-crested Cormorants, Great Blue Heron, Turkey Vulture, +200 American Robins and a few uncommon birds such as 4 Surf Scoters, Long-tailed Duck and a hybrid HerringXGreat Black-backed Gull. We watched a Bald Eagle steal a fish from a huge flock of gulls (including over 250 Great Black-backs) at Wheatley Harbour and an Eastern Screech-Owl sunning itself at the entrance of its roost cavity. The fall field trips recorded a total of 167 species. Winter trips begin Saturday January 8. In the meantime consider helping with a Christmas Bird Count over the holidays.
