This was certainly the year of the sparrow! Deep snow forced sparrows and other field birds to roadsides which allowed easy counting. Weather on count day was -5C with 15 (to 40) cm. of snow cover and virtually no open water on Lake Erie. At the end of the day we gathered at Tom and Peggy Hurst's for the tally and pot luck dinner.
