2006 Cedar Creek Christmas Bird Count

The twenty-second Cedar Creek CBC held on December 16th, 2006 attracted 55 participants (including 8 feeder watchers) who walked 103 km and drove 647 km to tally a record 100 species plus 1 count week species (long term average is 84 species) and 58,831 individuals.

Last year deep snow forced sparrows and other field birds to bare roadsides which allowed easy counting but water birds were scarce or absent. This year mid December averaged 13F warmer than normal and we had very mild conditions for the count. Twenty-five species, including nine waterfowl, were tallied in record high numbers. At the end of the day we gathered at Tom and Peggy Hurst's for the tally and pot luck dinner.
